Tonya Elizabeth Burek Dubeansky – 31, entered the kingdom of heaven on February 20, 2015 at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY, surrounded by her family, music, and love. Loving wife of Brandon M Dubeansky and devoted mother to Stella E Dubeansky, Tonya is the daughter of Timothy and Susan (Maggs) Burek of Huntersville, NC and brother to Steven T Burek of North Tonawanda, NY. Born in Rochester, NY on June 30, 1983, Tonya graduated from Spencerport High School in 2001 and went on to earn her Bachelors degree in Music Education from Baldwin Wallace College and Masters degree in Music Education from Hofstra University. Tonya demonstrated her passion of sharing music with children for almost 10 years as a music teacher at Park Ave Elementary school in Westbury, NY. She was active in the Long Island Chapter of the American Orff- Schulwerk Association (LIAOSA), Baldwin Wallace Alumni Association and Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church Family Ministries. Tonya is also survived by her grandmother Joyce Hatch Maggs of Eden, NY, in-laws Suzanne and Edward Dubeansky, Korene (Michael) Engelking of Mentor, OH, nieces Clara and Arianna Engelking, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous dear friends. Predeceased by maternal grandfather Gerald Maggs, paternal grandparents Walter and Stevanna Burek and godmother Carol Zahm A celebration of Tonya’s life will be held at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church (7 W 55th St, New York, NY 10019) on Saturday March 7 at 2:00pm with Reverend Charlene Han Powell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to DonorsChoose.org or Voices Against Brain Cancer. Tonya’s radiant smile, positive outlook, zest for life and love for others have touched countless lives. We’re sure she’s singing in heaven with the angel choir as she watches over those who love her still on earth.
