Obituary of Melissa McKenna

Please share a memory of Melissa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Melissa Anne McKenna passed away on March 5th, 2025. Born on October 5th, 1976 and raised in Queens, NY, she brought laughter, consideration, and a sharp sense of humor to everyone she met.

A graduate of Christ the King High School, Melissa had a gift with people. She was a wonderful waitress, known for her incredible memory and effortless people skills. She could charm a crowded room and remember your order down to the last detail without so much as a pen and paper. Ironically, despite her years in the service industry, she had no hesitation about sending food back at restaurants, breaking the unspoken rule but always with a laugh.

Melissa was hardheaded in the best way. She was strong-willed, protective, and extremely loving. She was proudest of being a mother, raising a strong young woman, her daughter, Aniyah Spencer. Her love for her family was unwavering. She is survived by her mother, Nora Gebert; her brothers, Michael McKenna, John Zakowski, and Huey Zakowski; her beloved daughter, Aniyah; and her nephews, all of whom she adored.

Her presence was bold, her love was deep, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Melissa’s family and friends will gather to honor her life and legacy, She will be missed beyond words but remembered with endless love.
