Obituary of Luis M Figueroa
Luis M Figueroa
October 27, 1931 – May 3, 2025
Luis Figueroa passed away on May 3, 2025, at the age of 93. Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Luis eventually made his way to Los Angeles, California, before settling in Queens, New York, where he lived and worked for many years, notably with Aeroperú and in various other roles throughout his career.
A passionate runner and adventurer, Luis was a 26-time marathon participant who inspired many with his descriptive yet modest stories of travel and accomplishment. He truly loved life and longevity, often welcoming guests and visiting loved ones for all sorts of joyful outings—from afternoons at the local museum and petting zoo in New York, to beach city visits in downtown Los Angeles, to neighborhood craft fairs and beer expos in New Hampshire.
Luis had a profound appreciation for those who thought of him, delighting in family visits, humorous childhood stories, homemade treats like cherry pie and oversized cookies, and being present for life’s many milestones. He loved staying active and remained an avid walker. His warmth, energy, and zest for shared experiences continue to leave a lasting impression on us all.
He is survived by his son, Luis Figueroa Jr.; his three granddaughters, Katharine Figueroa, Elizabeth (Boisvert), and Olivia Figueroa; and his grandson, Christian Figueroa. He held a special place in his heart for the comical and endearing moments shared with them. He will also be deeply missed by his daughter, Laura, and loving family member Esperanza Orrego. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edda, whom he regarded with great adoration.
Luis will be deeply missed for his love of soccer, his enthusiasm for espionage novels and films, his spirited marathon tales, and his appreciation for music and dancing. His family and friends hold dear the many cherished memories shared over the years and pray for the peaceful passage of his soul into God’s hands. We ask all who knew him to join us in prayer for his eternal rest.
