Margaret “Maggie” Helen Rowley, departed this life for heaven in the early morning hours of January 19, 2026, at the age of 91, in Flushing, New York, where she resided for more than five decades.
Born in La Digue, St. Andrew’s, Grenada, Margaret was one of six children born to Henry E.D. “Jack” Ogilvie and Mirabel “Timpy” Ogilvie. Known affectionately as “Maggie,” she carried with her a deep love for family, learning and service throughout her long and meaningful life. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Robert Ogilvie.
As a young woman, Margaret left Grenada in 1953 with her sister to pursue nursing studies in Swansea, Wales, beginning a distinguished career devoted to the care of others. Her professional journey took her to hospitals in Swansea and London, before returning to the Caribbean, where she continued nursing in Trinidad, following a brief period of work as an agricultural research officer. After immigrating to the United States in 1968, Margaret built an accomplished nursing career, rising to the position of Director of Nursing at a private hospital in New York. In the final chapter of her career, she chose to serve patients in their homes through the Visiting Nurse Service, from which she retired with pride. Margaret was recognized by JSPOA (the Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults) for enhancing the life of senior citizens.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Margaret was a devoted Anglican Episcopalian whose life reflected her commitment to God and community. At St. George’s Episcopal Church, Flushing, NY she faithfully served as Warden, choir member, and volunteer, offering her time and gifts with joy. In later years, she was an active and enthusiastic parishioner at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Forest Hills, NY continuing her commitment to church life and service.
Margaret delighted in life’s simple pleasures—reading, sewing, knitting, crossword puzzles, indoor gardening, and welcoming friends and family with warmth and hospitality. She was admired for her quiet strength, wise counsel, gentle humor and unwavering kindness. Above all, she cherished her family and the many relationships she nurtured across generations, cultures and continents.
She leaves a rich legacy of love and service through her children, Jennifer and Robert Adrian; daughter-in-law, Courtney; granddaughters, Constance and Amberlyn; her siblings Jean (late husband, Sylvanus), Harry (late wife, Pansy), Roland and Nestor; sisters-in-law Britt, Hazel, and Monsie; many beloved nieces and nephews; Kirsten Helbo Ogilvie and the extended Ogilvie and Archibald families across four continents; numerous dear friends; and her dear four-legged family member, Stryker.
