With great sorrow, we announce that Ping-Wen Hou passed away in his home, surrounded by his loved ones, in Fresh Meadows, Queens, NY, on May 14, 2026.  He was born on October 2, 1940, and through his journey of 85 years, he touched many lives with his kindness, wisdom, and humor.

He was born in Lukang, Taiwan, graduated from Kaohsiung Medical College in 1966, where he met his beloved wife, Tsai-Yueh, and together they immigrated to the United States in 1969.  He led a fulfilling career as a psychiatrist, as chief of the psychiatric emergency room at Elmhurst Hospital, and later with his own private practice.

Ping-Wen's life was full of love, generosity, family, world travel, and fine food, and he had a particular, neverending passion for classical music, especially for his favorite composer Gustav Mahler.

He is survived by his wife, Tsai-Yueh, and his loving children, Ernie and Bernie, and his grandchildren, Rachel and Adrian.

A memorial service celebrating Ping-Wen's exceptional life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 2:30pm at Fox Funeral Home in Forest Hills, NY.  Friends and family are welcome to visit from from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
