I was privileged to spend a New Year’s Eve with Nellie and Rose and Nellie was the youngest of us all! And, Nellie was so gracious as to host me for a night on my way from Puerto Rico to Ireland. It was such a fun evening. I will always remember her as being the sweetest and most youthful person I have ever met.

To know Nellie was to love Nellie. It was as simple as that. She and my Mom and my Dad, and mi Tía y Tío, and their many friends, lived life to the fullest. We should all live long enough to live a life like Nellie did. She and my parents traveled all over and ate at the best restaurants, went to the movies and to events at el Circulo Español y la Casa Galicia. There was always music, laughter, and dancing. And how she loved to dance. I was privileged to accompany my Mom to Nellie's 95 and 96 birthday parties, both lovely events, where Nellie walked in dancing. I can never forget that. More than anything, I will miss her smile and her always telling me at the end of a phone call, "Dios te bendiga" God Bless You. May God Bless her and her family.

I have so many wonderful memories of Mrs Vega. Sitting in their dinning room speaking to her while watching TV and drinking Mr. Vega's homemade wine. She would be in the kitchen cooking something up that always smelled delicious. She would give me a "sample" of her empanada which was always perfect. Also, going to Sunken Meadow with their family, thinking I was in whole other country. God bless her and her family and may she rest in peace with our Lord. I will miss her.

Hay personas que se te quedan guardadas en el corazón por pequeño que fuera el momento que compartimos con ella. Sé que la van a estrañar, porque se percibía desde el primer momento la generosidad, bondad y el buen humor que desprendía, pero estoy segurísima de que tuvo una vida llena de aventuras y que fue vivida al máximo. Ojalá puedan recordar pronto esos momentos con alegría y no tristeza. Mucho ánimo y un abrazo enorme.

Nellie Vega was an amazing woman, mother, and grandmother. I was amazed at her vitality, energy, and love for life - she gave me energy in her presence! And she imparted that zest to her daughters. She was tremendously loved by all who knew her and will be missed terribly. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
