Obituary of Adelaida (Zita) McCarthy

Adelaida Sidzikauskas Mc Carthy died peacefully at home in Briarwood, NY on Saturday evening, July 18. Adelaida was born in Lithuania December 19, 1932. She was a graduate of a Lithuanian "Gymnasium" in Hanau, Germany, where the family lived after fleeing Lithuania in the wake of the Soviet invasion in 1944. She is also a graduate Eastern District High School, Brooklyn, New York and of York College, Queens, New York with a degree in accounting. She was a blue tie member of the Lithuanian Scouts, and was a Scout Leader with the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. She was a past president of the Knights of Columbus Council 566 Morris Park Chapter Columbiettes, and a parishioner at Annunciation Lithuanian Parish, Brooklyn, N Y. Adelaida was predeceased by her beloved husband Daniel McCarthy and her oldest daughter Laura, her parents, Col. Vladas Sidzikauskas and Adelaida Striaupa Sidzikauskas, and her younger brother Vladas (Walter) Sidzikauskas Sidas. She is survived by her son Thomas Mc Carthy and his wife Joanne Crane Mc Carthy of Middle Village, NY, her daughter Diane A. Mc Carthy Golden her husband Richard and children Theresa Belaus, Captain Amy Renee Belaus, Rebecca Belaus, John Wade and Cindy Golden of Griffin, GA; and daughter and caregiver Patricia L. Mc Carthy- Chin and Dr. Bruce Chin of Jamaica Estates, NY, and Laura's children Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Jaber and Suzanne Jaber and their families. She has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was blessed with being able to see all of her great-grand children. Adelaida is also survived by her cousins Aldona Sidzikauskas Kudirka, and Margarita Sidzikauskas Green, of California, Juozas Sidas of Vilnus, Lithuania, Jonas Kaunas, of Chicago, Vygintas Sidzikauskas of Vilnius, Lithuania, Virginia Sidzikauskas Ciziene, of Kaunas, Lithuania, nephew and Godson Walter Anthony Sidas and namesake Zita J. Sidas, and her brother's widow, Patricia G. Sidas of Wilton, Connecticut. She is survived by her husband's cousins Michael Galgano of Long Island, Georgiana Fuhrmann of Pennsylvania, James Ansart of Massachusetts, Thomas Ansart & Robert Ansart of Washington State and Elizabeth Haff of Maryland. In her later years she enjoyed knitting and crochet, listening to classical music, and watching Big Bang Theory on TV.
