Wilma Ann Hammerle, age 78, died on April 14, 2018 in Queens New York after a long illness. Wilma is survived by her children Jennifer Burke, Julia Hach and John Robertson; and grandchildren Alden, Sam and Charles Burke, Reuben Hach and Mesfin Robertson; Robert his wife Carol and their 5 children and preceded in death by her parents Louise and Eugene.
Wilma was born and raised in Queens with her brother Bob. She graduated from the High School of Art and Design in New York and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Queens College in 1958. After graduation she worked in a test kitchen for Domino Sugar and helped author a cook book for the company. A lifelong learner she went back to college in midlife and earned a degree from The Fashion Institute of Technology and subsequently a Master’s of Social Work from New York University.
Wilma was a great cook and loved to garden. She lived most of her life as a resident of New York and loved her city. She suffered deeply from mental illness and her family is grieving her suffering in life and the loss of her.
