Richard Norris Whelan (Rick) died peacefully on September 25, 2023 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was a graduate of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Physics at St John's University and a Master's Degree from New York University. Rick taught physics at Archbishop Molloy High School. Rick loved music and playing his Gretsch Anniversary guitar. He also loved to travel and visited Barbados, London, Germany and Switzerland with his wife many times.
Survivors include his wife Anita, sister Cecily Peeples (Byron), brother William Whelan (Kathleen) and sister-in-law Margaret Whelan. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Whelan, sister Gabrielle Karas and her husband George, and nephew George Nicholas. He is also survived by his nieces Stephanie Karas, Alexandra Karas, Melanie Ramos (Otoniel), Diana Karas, Genevieve Banks (Steven) and Natalie Whelan (Rishi Rattan), and nephews Joseph Whelan (Sylvie), Robert Whelan (Preeta Samarasan) and Timothy Peeples (Lauren). He will be missed by his family and friends.
