Obituary of Gertrude "Chickie" DiCapua
Gertrude "Chickie" DiCapua, 100, of Westtown, NY (formally Forest Hills, NY), passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024.
Born on October 29, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY, Gertrude was the daughter of Benjamin and Rafaella Bifalco. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who lived a full and remarkable life. Known to all who loved her as "Chickie," she had a warm and vibrant personality that left a lasting and profound impression on all who met her.
Gertrude was a talented seamstress, spending many years creating beautiful garments and offering her skills to those around her. In addition to her work, she was deeply involved in the community at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, where she contributed to many activities and was a devoted member of the congregation. You could even catch her filling in as an Altar boy occasionally, when needed. Her faith and generosity were at the heart of everything she did.
Chickie had a love for life that extended beyond her family and work. She found joy in her garden, where she spent countless hours caring for her fruits, vegetables, and flowers. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends, spending afternoons playing bingo, and was an avid New York Rangers fan—her enthusiasm for the team was unmatched, you could always hear her yelling at the TV. Especially when they were playing the Islanders which was her husband’s favorite team.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph DiCapua, as well as her four siblings: Sonny, Mike, Dolly, and Tootsie.
Chickie is survived by her children, son Dominick and daughter Rosemary and her husband Gerald; her grandchildren Jon-Paul and Amber, Joseph, Louis and Brittany, Mary and Stuart, Maria and Chris, and Michelle; her great-grandchildren Olivia and Aria; her step-great-grandchildren Jacob and Julian; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed deeply by her family and friends, who were enriched by her wisdom, love, and light.
A wake to pay respects to Chickie will be held on November 25, 2024, 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Fox Funeral Home, followed by a mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church at 11:00 AM.
Chickie's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
As Chickie would say when you told her you loved her…” I love you more!”
